The objective of this brief note is to quantify the impact that the closure of coal-fired power plants in Spain would have on two variables whose importance exceeds the electricity sector itself: the price of electricity for consumers – which affects the disposable income of households and the competitiveness of companies-, and carbon emissions in the electricity sector – whose reduction is a necessary condition for decarbonisation of the economy as a whole.
