The team discovered that the unusual object of the Kuiper belt, named 2004 EW95, is a carbon-rich asteroid, the first of its kind confirmed in the cold periphery of the Solar System. Probably, this curious object formed in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter and was launched billions of kilometers from its place of origin to its current home, in the Kuiper belt.
